My Birthday

Well, Mike's busiest month is over...Mother's Day, our anniversary and my birthday! Poor guy. Every year he is swamped in celebrations in May(well, my birthday is June 1 but same difference). :) My birthday was very nice. Mike brought me flowers and we all went to eat at our new Tex Mex restaurant Cantina Laredo. Sallie and Robert picked out earrings for me and I also got a beautiful necklace from my friend Bushra and a leather camel from Ryan and Mike. I told Mike I wanted something local...:) We only have one holiday celebration left for our first year here...Father's Day. I'm so glad that we won't leave until after the 15th as I hated the thought of Mike being here without us.
Ryan is finished with school. He is now officially a senior. Wow.
It was a sad day here in the UAE. The Sheikh's younger brother was killed last nite in a helicopter accident. The flags are all at half mast and the radio stations are playing classical music. Apparently the country will be in mourning for 3 days. It came at an interesting time for Mike as well. The Sheikh had scheduled a visit to the jobsite today. This meant that a whole new road was paved so he wouldnt' be driving in sand....and it will then be torn out...and it also meant that no work was done today. The whole job site was closed for his visit. Never in Mike's 23 years in construction has he ever been told to shut a job down because of a visitor.....Never. :) Ah well.... We continue to learn new things and navigate unknown territory. :)
Hope everyone is having a great summer. See you soon.

Dear Mattie, I was just getting online to wish you a Happy Belated Birthday wish when I caught up on all of your blogs. I am pretty new to this, so it takes me quite a while to navigate through techland. I am terrible about the facebook updates and so forth. But now with school out I can finally do something other than CDA. I miss you. It does help to read the blogs it doesn't feel so far. Courtney has been so looking forward to Ryan coming home. She is talking about the party they will share at the Sharps house with Ryan, Garrett, Taylor and she and stephanie. They can't wait to stay up all night playing Risk, video games and sharing some of the good ole' days. I am so glad for her to have great friends like Ryan. We really missed him this year.
Our life is changing again. Kevin resigned this week from his consulting position he has held for the past 20 months. He does not have another job yet. So that is our biggest news. I am not sure which emotion I am feeling at which moment. He finishes this job on June 20th. Then he is home. He said he could not be away from his family in a job that was going no where. He jumped off the Titanic after many days of repositioning the deck chairs. He was on a never ending task of trying to get things straightened out in a company that was going down faster than he could do anything about it. He was placed in the position by a friend who wanted to get a return from his original investment. Kevin tried hard to get his money back for him but kept telling the guy not to invest any more. Instead he just kept pouring money into it. It is time to leave now. He is at a complete peace about the decision. I am at peace knowing it was the right thing to do, but I do not see the window of opportunity opening as we are closing the door to the past. So with that said I am pouring over bible studies and praying and seeking God for a word to stand on. But continually walking by faith not by sight. I did not know you were coming home this summer too. Courtney kept telling me that Ryan was coming alone. I should have known. I hope to see you while you are here. I know you have a lot of friends. But you will always be a treasure to me. I wish I knew more like you. I love and miss you! Love, Lynette
